The following tells about some of our past retreats:
Authentic Movement: Deepening
the Practice in Nature's Embrace
We met this past fall (October 2003), for three luscious days of
Authentic Movement, nature, art-making, silence, cooperative cooking,
and campfire fun. Surrounded by the brilliant colors of autumn and
caressed by the constant companionship of the river's soothing sounds,
we were able to drop deep into our bodies and expand into the gentle
silence. A hike to the waterfalls satisfied all the senses as we
bathed in the spray of cool waters, and some even took a dip! Our
homey lodge, with its huge yoga/dance/movement space beneath wide
skylights, became our sanctuary for personal and communal exploration
and expression. And at night, being able to gaze up and see the
full moon without even having to go outside was a special added
treat.
Here are some of what this year's participants
said about the retreat:
"Community building.
Healing. Deeply sustaining. Heart opening. Supportive."
"An
amazingly magical place that I hope to return to."
"Nourishing;
revealing; scary; challenging; surprising; validating;
significant; deeply satisfying; lasting... And the accommodations
were
amazing."
"Exquisite!"
"A
perfect place for a retreat. I loved the river and the colors!"
Committing to your True
Self: Exploring your Heart's Longings
May 2002:
We enjoyed a rainy weekend of "downtime"; art, yoga, lots
of rest and creative endeavors in interpersonal communication. This
was our time. With the rain outside, time seemed to have expanded
inside. We explored our hearts and our dreams, and we shared our
discoveries. Through the structure of the weekend, a safe space
was held as each person was allowed to be exactly where they
were. With the shared meal-making and an evening of dance; fun,
laughter, and play were the perfect additional ingredients to a
life transforming weekend.
"Everything
was just right. The safety created allowed me to be true to myself
and let my truth be seen by others. I never would have thought that
in such a short period of time, my life could change so significantly."
"I
loved being able to just rest."
Awakening the Creative
Body: Transformations in the Catskills
October 2002:
In this creative expression weekend, we joined nature's autumnal
colors in a celebration of individual exploration and expression.
We used yoga, dance, song, art, nature, silence, and meditation
to release the blocks that had been holding us back and open to
more of who we are. The natural environment inspired our journey
as we tapped into our creative bodies. From the poignancy of silence
to the free-spirited expression of dance, we practiced being present
to whatever unfolded.
"You
created a rich environment for people to be honest and vulnerable
and strong, in the absence of judgment, in the presence of compassion,
and it was really an oasis in this world...thank you... I couldn't
imagine the weekend providing me spiritual nourishment so quickly."
"An
extraordinary weekend that I will not soon forget."
About our home in the Catskills: PEEKAMOOSE
LODGE
Peekamoose Lodge is nestled deep in the woods of the Catskill Mountains.
Established as a place to rest from the city and renew the soul,
the retreat center can only be reached by a road less traveled.
A river flows outside the lodge and leads to a magical waterfall
- just a short hike away. The yoga/dance studio in the center of
our lodging is spacious and is illuminated with skylights. There
are 7 bedrooms with single and double beds, two community bathrooms,
and a well-equipped kitchen.
MEALS: We all take part in contemplative cooking,
exploring the sacred in making meals together. We each bring food
for part of a meal and share in the responsibility of cooking. Most
dietary needs are honored.
TRANSPORTATION: The driving distance from Manhattan
is approximately 3 hours.
Every effort is made to arrange carpools. Otherwise, from New York
City, there is a Shortline Bus from Port Authority Bus Terminal
to Monticello, NY ($25 one way). We can arrange a pick up for you.
COSTS: TBD.
